The album was ranked number 91 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and number 59 in Channel 4's 2009 list of 100 Greatest Albums. In 2003, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The move provided John and his band with a great deal of creative inspiration, and an abundance of quality material was produced, leading to the decision to release the work as a double album (LP). It was recorded at the Studio d'enregistrement Michel Magne at the Château d'Hérouville in France after problems recording at the intended location in Jamaica.

Among the 17 tracks, the album contains the hits ' Candle in the Wind', ' Bennie and the Jets', ' Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' and ' Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting' plus live favorites ' Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding' and ' Harmony'. The album has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and is widely regarded as John's best. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is the seventh studio album by English singer-songwriter Elton John, first released in 1973 as a double LP. Studio Château d'Hérouville, Hérouville, France remixed and overdubbed at Trident, London Recorded May 1973 using a 16 track tape recorder Like all the other TH 5.1s, the surround mix is really good, with discrete use of the rears and it sounds great too. This album came out while we were having our two babies, so it's elicits a little extra nostalgia.

So this album isn't in the same rarified territory as it's three predecessors, but it's still a pretty great album that's very fun to listen to. I'd be more disappointed if it weren't for the fact that it's nice to have a little 8o's synth pop that isn't Depeche Mode or Simple Minds. The 5.1 mixes for the live tracks just have synth reverb in the back kinda like the studio tracks I guess. The center channel is just in the middle of the stereo field. The surround is just OK - seems to be a synth of one sort or another mixed in surround on different tracks. This seems to be a compilation of whatever tracks the compiler could get his hands on. I think this is the only Allmans 5.1 released so far that is really essential.

But this sounds like Wilson mix - lead vocals in the center, bass and drums in front, and various other instruments discretely mixed to the rear percussion, guitar, keyboards all appear back there. Eat a Peach and Fillmore East are also Allman standards, but the Duane parts are pretty much all live and not really amenable to a surround mix that is substantially different from stereo. A classic Allman Brothers album from back when there really were two Allmans in the band.
